Thanks, Co-op!

Thanks, Co-op!

We would like to say a huge thankyou to The Co-operative, who have very kindly donated 500 delicious muffins to Caketober 2014. The muffins will be used in ‘Cakeface’, our video campaign in the run-up to Caketober, raising awareness of this awesome event.

Caketober is an event running throughout October, where businesses across the city dust off their wooden spoons and hold bake sales in fancy dress. All the money raised goes to Forever Manchester – the fantastic community foundation which funds local projects and people making a positive difference to our city.

The Co-operative has longstanding ties to Forever Manchester, having managed and distributed the Community Youth Fund since 2006. The Co-op Bank also offers free banking for community and voluntary groups like those supported by Forever Manchester. It’s great to see such a big business doing its bit for Manchester!

Last year was the inaugural Caketober, with over 40 businesses including UK Fast, Adam Recruitment, Tangerine PR, the Corn Exchange and many more getting involved. Celebrity chef Simon Rimmer contributed a fabulous recipe, and there was even a Great Manchester Bake Off at Grill on New York Street – everyone really got into the spirit of things.

And best of all, we raised over £5,000 for Forever Manchester’s worthy causes.

Want to get involved?

We’re hoping this year’s Caketober will be even bigger, with your help. Visit our Taking Part page for a fundraising pack, and start spreading the word in your business. Don’t forget to share your cake pictures and fancy dress efforts with the hashtag #Caketober so we can see how much fun you’re having, and when you’ve sold all your cake, donate your earnings to Forever Manchester.

While raising money for a great cause and eating lots of delicious cake is of course reason enough to join in, a lot of businesses told us last year how much fun they had as a team. You could even have a prize for best cake or best fancy dress to up the ante, invite clients or customers along to sell more cake, or have more than one Caketober day to spread out the indulgence.

The Co-operative’s amazing generosity means we’re already off to a flying start getting the word out there – but every retweet will help, so stay tuned for the hilarious Cakeface!
